~My Lovely Dossier of TerraTech Vehicles~

TerraTech is quite a fun open-world game by Payload Studios, where you assemble your own vehicles, or "techs", from all manner of modular pieces. You can have races, watch your techs fall over, fight enemies, try to survive, and craft new blocks by moving pieces around on conveyor belts.

On procedurally-generated alien planets, you're free to devour and sell natural resources for no better reason than to grab more parts, make more money, blow up more enemies and become the next Elden Lord. What's it all in aid of? Nothing! Nothing but money and explosions. Anyway, here are some techs what I've made.

GSO "First Wave"

A simple, small-ish tech which you can build once you've stockpiled some early-game blocks. It has a repair bubble and can anchor to recharge its batteries.

Incomplete version, also featuring a trading station and a typical "tower of gubbins" to look after spare parts.

GSO Tiny Tank

A small, small vehicle using some advanced GSO components. At close range, the Tiny Tank can out-violence most techs of its size.

Rumbler

A tough early-game tech made of basic GSO and GeoCorp parts. It's a good match for most of the enemies you'd encounter around then. It has repair and shield bubbles, and can anchor to recharge. It also comes with a large block magnet on top and some high-capacity resource collectors.

Scout

Made from the same sorts of parts as the Rumbler, but smaller and more manoeuvreable. The Scout is meant more for exploring than fighting. It has a repair bubble, and as usual can be anchored to recharge its internal batteries. It is equipped with two small block magnets and a handful of small collectors.

Better Future HoverBird Custom

A customised version of the Hover Bird, which you're encouraged to buy from Better Future to run their hovercraft race courses. I improved the speed and handling with common blocks you'd probably have by that stage of the game, and while it may not be perfect, my customised Hover Bird is at somewhat pleasant to fly.

Toughened Tug Boat

An early- to middle-game tech, using mainly GSO and GeoCorp blocks, with a few Venture weapons as well. The Toughened Tug Boat is good for combat, off-road travel and transportation, with high-capacity batteries and plenty of room for resources. She does require a grade 3 GeoCorp license, but you can get one quite quickly by doing the resource gathering missions.

I named her the Toughened Tug Boat as a reference to her toughness and somewhat boat-like profile. In keeping with the boat theme, she's also the first canonically female tech on this page.

Layerback Lorry

A reasonably-sized mobile base for the decently established prospector. The Layerback Lorry evolved from the same stock as the Toughened Tug Boat, but comes with Hawkeye weapons, grade 4 GSO parts, and a built-in crafting system with refinery and component fabricator.

While anchored, the Layerback Lorry can craft a reasonable selection of GSO blocks. The fabricator at the back can be swapped with other companies' fabricators, with only minor rebuilding needed for large fabricators. An ingenious double-layered silo lets the Layerback Lorry carry about 180 resource chunks at a time, and two resource receivers allow it to take materials from smaller harvesting techs.

Basic Turret

This is the turret you may remember from a couple of pictures ago. It's made of fairly plentiful blocks you should have after blowing up a few dozen enemies, and packs considerable firepower into a small, easy-to-use package.

The Basic Turret's snapshot. You might notice that there's no background, and I haven't exactly captured the turret's best side. Well, this is the way TerraTech takes snapshots for techs you aren't piloting at the time, and the turret doesn't have a driver's seat...

GSO Roamer

A handy tech you can use once you have a grade 5 GSO license. The Roamer has fully-integrated resource processing, with a mobile refinery, furnace and delivery cannons enabling it to sell or "eat" resource chunks while driving. It is less good at bringing them back to your crafting base. A set of Megaton cannons let the Roamer deal with most enemies that don't have a larger set of Megaton cannons.

Better Future Dolphin

A fast, agile hovercraft, made of grade 1 Better Future parts and a bunch of other stuff. The Dolphin is good for getting around quickly, and its armaments are enough to deal with small enemies or kite more dangerous ones. Keep in mind, however, that using the main guns will ruin the Dolphin's handling.

A snapshot for the Dolphin.

The Dolphin in combat. In the hands of an experienced pilot, it's more than capable of dealing with enemies like that tank.

The Dolphin can also cope quite well with hover training missions.

Venture Flash Fire

A compact racing car with good handling and exceptional straight-line speed. The Flash Fire is ideal for impressing Suzie Vroom.

Better Future flyPod

A small, decently manoeuvreable anti-gravity tech for Better Future's anti-gravity challenges. The flyPod is made of basic parts you should have around the time you've unlocked Better Future, but is more than capable of completing the anti-gravity courses, and will only fly into a helpless spin 35% of the time!

The flyPod's snapshot. Isn't it cute?

Better Future Orca

An advanced globe-trotting hover tech, making use of advanced blocks and weaponry. The Orca is agile, decent in combat, and capable of selling or burning resources on the move thanks to its mobile furnace and delivery cannon. If, for some reason, it's taking you ages to unlock the grade 5 GSO license, it will work fine without the mobile furnace.

Saikyou Mirai Neo Hyper Tank DX

A very stylish tank, made mostly out of Better Future and Hawkeye parts. It isn't very practical or easy to use in the campaign, but could be fun to have around.

How to Use Snapshots

In TerraTech, a snapshot is a tech saved as a PNG image, which you can potentially load into the game. They're stored in a snapshots folder, unique to each TerraTech player on your computer. You should be able to find it in a folder somewhat like this:

C:\Users\Name\Documents\My Games\TerraTech\Steam or GOG user ID\Snapshots

Any TerraTech snapshots in that folder can be accessed in the game, as long as they're formatted properly. You can borrow the snapshots on this page by right-clicking on them and choosing "save as", then moving them to your snapshots folder.

By downloading any one of my techs from A Dream of Scarlet Plus-Fours, you agree not to use the aforementioned tech for hate speech or tax evasion.
